Subaltern Brazilian Art Praxis vol 1

This series will bring underground and grassroots artistic practices from Brazil. The purpose is to showcase how Brazilian art is - against all odds - still dynamic, pulsating and very relevant.

VIA-DA SACRA by Márcie Rames

The creation of the choreographic work Sacred Queer proposes a dialogue with gender identity and its possibilities of transiting the body of the interpreter and creator, using the concepts of queer theory and gender performativity, both present in the work of the philosopher Judith Butler, in order to elucidate ways to perform the queer universe. During the process of creation the body sublimates the spatial territory between man and woman, but the word cannot do without written language, which is loaded with signs that mold a stereotype. How to build with words that which the body seeks to deconstruct?
