About the artist

Rio de Janeiro-based artist and architect Leo Luz has been doing his art for over 10 years and took several courses at the prestigious School of Visual Arts at Parque Lage between 2008 and 2012.

Leo explains that “for several years, graphics were my main interest. Soon I started to add paint to the works, and the texture began to interest me. I gradually added more and more material to the works, first on paper, then onto canvas. The process, however, did not remain solely in the pictorial language. The large amount of material/paint brought a sculptural aspect to the work.

In this way, my research became involved with the challenge of accommodating drawing, painting, sculpture, and object in the same support”.

The limits of the physical and symbolic environments are being tested by Leo Luz, showcasing those tensions with a lot of poetry.
